Finding Wilberforce Ethnic Studies Project

William's Journey to His Destiny

Finding Wilberforce is the story of a young Black man's journey to his destiny as a keeper of history. This full- length historical fiction novel introduces 5th grade students and above to Daniel Payne, Thomas Clarkson, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and Mary Bowser- an eclectic group of individuals who made a significant difference in history.

While on the journey to becoming a historian, William meets people from the past who each teach him a lesson about life and legacy.

Using a reading-comprehension based writing focus, this one-of-a-kind curriculum includes interactive opportunities for both teachers and students.

What about the K-4th Graders?

My Writing Coach has an exclusive series called Empathy and Me that is more appropriate for the K-4th grade students.

These writing tasks are based on picture books of relatively unknown people in history. There are opportunities to learn about Henry Box Brown, Charlotte E. Ray, William Still, and more.

The follow-up book to Finding Wilberforce will be released in Fall 2024. Titled The Other Side of Liberty, its content will follow young William aka "Billy" as he learns about Richmond, Charleston, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Rochester and the cities' importance as the Eastern Line of the Underground Railroad.
